Star Trek Shirt
The costumes from Star Trek are nearly as famous and important as the characters. In the original Star Trek series the male officers wore a colored Star Trek shirt with the arrowhead Starfleet insignia on the left breast, dark grey pants and black boots. The female officers wore a short skirt, black tights and boots. The rank of the crew was indicated by gold colored solid or dotted braids on the sleeves.
The color of the shirt indicated the crew member’s position. The command personnel wore gold. The science, medical and security personnel wore blue and operations, engineering and security personnel wore red. They all had black collars and undershirts.

The original series was called Star Trek but was later renamed Star Trek: The Original Series to differentiate it from all the following series and films.
Star Trek: The Next Generation was made after the original series and the first movie Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It began in 1987 and was a great success. The significance of the uniforms changed with red being for command, yellow/gold for operations and engineering, with blue remaining for medical and sciences.
Here are some great costumes from The Next Generation.
The Star Trek Next Generation Red Shirt Deluxe Adult Costume would have been worn by Captain Picard, who was mainly portrayed by Patrick Stewart,and William Riker, his First Officer, played by Jonathan Frakes.
You can see it on the left. Captain Picard is a very wise and diplomatic character, a great Captain.
The Star Trek Next Generation Blue Shirt Deluxe Adult Costume, seen here on the left, would have been worn by Lieutenant Commander Deanna Troi, the ship’s counsellor, and Commander Beverly Crusher M.D., the ship’s chief medical officer. Deanna Troi became a Commander in series 7.
In the 2009 Star Trek movie, the uniforms are similar to the original series but with a few changes. For example, the over-shirt has the arrowhead insignia woven into the fabric. This film follows the main characters of the first TV series again but is a pre-quel to the series.
Below you can see the costumes as worn by Captain Kirk and Spock in the Star Trek Movie. Captain Kirk wore the gold shirt on the left and Spock the blue shirt on the right. You can see that they are quite similar to the shirts worn in the first series.
